How the quote and the paperwork work

The quote is based on what you describe: year, make, model, what is wrong with it, whether it is complete, whether it rolls and steers, and what the removal involves. It holds as long as the vehicle and the access match that description.

On pickup day I confirm the vehicle, check identification and confirm that the person releasing it has the authority to do so, complete the release paperwork, pay you, and only then load. If something is genuinely different from what was described, that conversation happens in front of you before anything goes on the deck.

Estate and inherited vehicles

A vehicle that belonged to a family member is a common West Side call, and it is the situation where I most often tell people to slow down and make one phone call first.

What I can say is that the vehicle can only be released by someone with the authority to release it, and that an ICBC Autoplan broker can confirm what is required for your specific situation. Access on West Side properties

Many of these pickups are from driveways, garages and lanes rather than the street. Older garages can have low openings, some driveways are long or narrow, and some are finished in pavers or fresh asphalt that the owner would rather not have marked.

Tell me what the vehicle is sitting on and what is above it. A car that will not roll on a soft or finished surface is handled differently from one on plain concrete, and that is a decision to make before the truck arrives, not after.

Street pickups around Kitsilano and Point Grey

West 4th Avenue, Broadway, Macdonald Street, Alma Street, Dunbar Street and West 41st Avenue carry real traffic and have parking rules that vary by block and hour. Residential streets a block or two off them are usually far more flexible.

If the vehicle is on a busy stretch, tell me which side of the street it is on and how tightly it is parked between other cars, because that is what decides whether it can be loaded safely.

What the vehicle is worth

There is no single price for a junk car. The quote comes from the year, make and model, what is wrong with it, whether the vehicle is complete, whether major parts such as the engine, transmission, wheels and catalytic converter are still on it, whether it rolls and steers, whether the keys are available, and what the removal itself takes.

It is worth being straight about one thing: the number is based on the vehicle, not on the neighbourhood. A well-kept car that has simply reached the end of its life is quoted the same way anywhere in Vancouver.
